WHO WE ARE

Jeanne Sarson RN, BScN, MEd
Linda MacDonald RN, BN, MEd

Since 1993 we have been relationship educators and human rights defenders working with persons who have experienced various forms of relational violence, including ritual abuse-torture. We listen to persons who have survived torture by non-state actors and continue to integrate this research into writings for academic publication. Our goal is to transform the worldview about the reality of non-state actor torture that happens in the home; including ritual abuse-torture.

“We are speaking the unspeakable;
because, without reality there is no truth,
and without truth how can there be healing?”

Our Biography

Non-state actor torture is torture committed, for instance, by parents, spouses, other kin, guardians, neighbours, trusted adults, or strangers in the private sphere, for example, in homes, warehouses, cabins, rented buildings, in fields, or in various public and private places.

WHAT IS RITUAL ABUSE-TORTURE?

Our nutshell definition

Ritual abuse-torture is one form of non-state actor torture and is about pedophilic parents, families, guardians, and like-minded adults who abuse, torture, and traffic children using organizing ritualisms.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

In 1993, Canada's  National Panel on Violence Against Women published their final report, Changing the Landscape: Ending Violence ~ Achieving Equality, dedicating a section to ritual abuse.  That same year a woman sought our help to exit from a present-day ritual abuse-torture co-culture into which she had been born. Working  together we achieved success.

As our understanding progressed we came to know how extensive pedophile acts are within all forms of adult-child relationships, adults who are commonly in positions of trust and on whom the infant, toddler, child, or youth ought to be able to safely depend. Pedophiles present as like-minded men and women, mothers and fathers. Other kin. Friends or neighbours. Persons from all walks of life. Persons who use positional power as a cover. The professional, the clergy, or lay person. A stranger. Adults who operate alone or in groups.

GLOBAL MAP OF THE PREVALENCE OF RITUAL ABUSE-TORTURE

If you are a person who has experienced ritual abuse-torture, or have a child who experienced ritual abuse-torture, or are the spouse of a person who has experienced ritual abuse-torture, please click on the guest map link and add a mark for the original site where these ritual abuse-torture violations occurred. The map looks a little crowded in some places. You can use the zoom icon at the top of the map. This will give more space to pick your geographical spot. If you have trouble using the map you can e-mail us at flight@ns.sympatico.ca and we will help you.

1. Click the red tack at the top of the map

2. Move, do not drag this tack to the place on the map where the ordeals of ritual abuse-torture occurred and hit this spot on the map.

3. A box will pop up. You need to type something in this box for your mark to stay. You can write a real name, a nick name, initials, or a pseudonym. Pick a little person icon that feels right. Click the flag of the country. Write in the name of the place in the comments section of the box (you can write in other places where ritual abuse-torture occurred in addition to the original site). An e-mail or website are not required.

RITUAL ABUSE-TORTURE:

An Emerging Human Rights Issue and Newly Recognized Form of Torture by "Non-state Actors" for the United Nations (UN)

We recommend ritual abuse-torture be identified as an emerging human rights violation; that ritual abuse-torture be recognized as a newly acknowledged form of torture that is inflicted by non-state actors. From our work and research, ritual abuse-torture is inflicted upon both girls and boys as young as infancy, and women. It involves planned and organized family and group rituals, abuse and torture as well as "off-street" in home, regional, national and transnational trafficking and sexualized exploitation and modern day slavery. Ritual abuse-torture has the capacity to destroy the personality of the infant, toddler, child, youth or adult victim.

RELATIONSHIPS CARTOON

In this section we use an animated cartoon character to illustrate and educate about the common and normal responses that persons can experience within the context of healthy, unhealthy, abusive, and ritual abuse-torture relationships.

Jeanne developed and used this theoretical, relational-educational model for years in her educational and counselling work with children, youth, and adults. Jeanne and Linda also used this praxis model (the theory and practice) in their private practice working with persons who reported trauma and suffering that resulted from ordeals of relational violence.

This section is a brief reflection of the content of our web site so we invite you into it with the thoughts that you are in control of your own learning. We use animation to create visual language to concretize abstract human responses. Please take your time to derive whatever learning fits for you.

Please feel free to provide us with your personal feedback via our E-mail address:

TORTURE AND RITUAL ABUSE-TORTURE BY PERPETRATORS WHO ARE “RELIGIOUS” MEN AND/OR WOMEN

This section is dedicated to the persons who have endured torture or ritual abuse-torture by perpetrators who hold religious positions as priests, nuns, ministers, or rabbi, for example. Read and learn from the stories shared or from the summary of media article reports as these become available. Submit your stories, poems, and/or art that are representative of your ordeals of torture or ritual abuse-torture victimization and traumatization by religious men and/or women. Sharing stories with others helps to break the isolation; it helps to realize one is not alone. For persons who have endured abuse perpetrated by religious men and/or women please check our link section for excellent web sites links that focus on abuse by clergy.
